Parag Agrawal at the head of Twitter: Indian CEOs are popular in the United States

Coincidence, this concentration of leaders? Certainly not. Engineers and executives of Indian origin are numerous in Silicon Valley, and their rise to the top owes nothing to chance. It is the direct consequence of the massive recourse to immigration, without which Silicon Valley could never have become the success story that we know.

More than 60% of IT, math, and engineering earners in Silicon Valley were foreign-born, according to the 2020 Silicon Valley Index . Many come from India: since 2009, 65% of H-1B visas (mostly granted to tech workers) have gone to Indians, according to the State Department. In a 2015 study, the Migration Policy Institute counted 89,000 Indians living in Silicon Valley, and another 86,000 in San Francisco and Oakland.
