UNITED STATES: A CHEATING SCANDAL SHAKES THE WORLD OF SPORT FISHING

During the Lake Erie Walleye Train contest in Ohio, a well-known sport fishing competition, two anglers weighted several of their catches to weigh them down when weighed.

Walleye is a very popular dish with gourmets. Originally from North America, this fish from the large perch family known for its nutty aftertaste, which can reach a size of 75cm in adulthood, is also at the heart of a scandal that is shaking the world. sport fishing in the United States.

Fish twice as heavy

The facts take place last Friday on the shores of Lake Erie, one of the five Great Lakes of North America. It is here that the Lake Erie Walleye Trail is organized , an extremely famous fishing contest which attracts participants from many neighboring states and which promises the winner the tidy sum of 29,000 dollars.

As CNN explains , things turned sour when event organizer Jason Fischer was surprised at the weight of one of the teams' catches at the final weigh-in. While the weight of the five fish was estimated at 20 pounds (about 9 kilos), these display the score of 34 pounds on the scale (about 15 kilos).

He discovers there

several lead eggs as well as nets. “We have weights in the fish,” he shouted at the time of the discovery, which has since been immortalized in a video that has since gone viral.

Ongoing investigation

The crowd, somewhat scalded by this discovery, demands that the police be called and is on the verge of physically attacking the cheaters. These, who declined to comment, are now the subject of an investigation.

According to a professional fisherman interviewed by the New York Times , cheating is commonplace in the world of sport fishing, especially since the techniques are numerous: delivery of pre-caught fish, fishing in prohibited areas, catches stuffed with ice which will then melt and erase the traces...

For his part, Jason Fischer is disgusted by this cheating, especially since the offending team has already won several competitions that he was able to organize. “They will never be allowed to participate again,” he concludes.

Reel outrage is rocking the competitive fishing world after the winners of a major Ohio tournament allegedly stuffed their fish with extra fillet and lead weights to score the cash prize.

The team of two competitors in the Lake Erie Walleye Trail contest were set to take home nearly $30,000 in winnings Friday when the tournament’s director, Jason Fischer, said he smelled something fishy.

The contest’s alleged shady participants, Jacob Runyan and Chase Cominsky, weighed in their five walleyes at a collective 34 pounds — when usually each fish weighs closer to 4 pounds, for an expected total catch of around 20 pounds.

Fischer cut open one fish’s stomach and found an extra fillet of walleye and lead balls had been apparently stuffed down its throat, he said. Then he found the same in the other fish, Fischer said.

Fischer, who declined to comment to The Post on Sunday, wrote in Facebook messages since the incident that he is “disgusted” by the cheating and at a “loss for words.”

The two suspect fishermen have made off with tens of thousands of cash prizes before, all of which are now under scrutiny, according to the Toledo Blade.

“I’m sorry for letting you down for so long and I’m glad I caught cheating taking place in YOUR LEWT at the same time,” Fischer wrote on the tournament’s page, addressing participants and fans. “You all deserve the best.”

'Summit of the Americas' concludes with partnership on immigration and mixed record

Described as "historic" by Joe Biden at the end of the "Summit of the Americas" on Friday, the "Los Angeles Declaration" should make it possible to harmonize the fight against illegal immigration in the twenty signatory countries. The major diplomatic meeting, supposed to open a new chapter in relations between the United States and its southern neighbors, ends with mixed results.  Twenty countries launched a partnership on immigration in Latin America on Friday, June 10, under the leadership of the United States and at the conclusion of a "Summit of the Americas" marked by more friction than concrete or spectacular announcements. “No country should be left” alone in the face of growing population movements that see thousands of people trying to cross the border between Mexico and the United States, fleeing misery and insecurity, said US President Joe Biden Friday.  Standing with the other signatories of the 'Los Angeles Declaration', all
