Uvalde shooting: the first chilling testimonies of child survivors

Children, present in the same room as the killer of Uvalde, say that they tried to "play dead", covered themselves in blood to prevent the assailant from shooting them. Survivors evoke nightmares. On the eve of President Joe Biden's visit, the first testimonies of children who survived the Uvalde ( Texas ) massacre emerged on Saturday May 28, describing the horror in this Texas school where a gunman killed  19 young students and two teachers . Inside the school, the children were locked up with the shooter, Salvador Ramos, barely 18 years old. Upon entering the room, the latter had closed the door and told them: “you are all going to die”, before opening fire, told a survivor, Samuel Salinas, 10, to the ABC channel on Friday. "I think he was aiming at me," testified the child, but a chair between him and the shooter blocked the bullet. In the room on the ground covered in blood, Samuel Salinas, in order not to be targeted by the shots, tried to "play dead&q

In Uvalde, Biden meditates in front of the portraits of the children killed

Jill and Joe Biden, devout Catholics, gathered and signed in front of an improvised memorial near the scene of the Uvalde killings. It almost looked like a Stations of the Cross: Joe Biden marched slowly this Sunday, May 29, past large portraits of the children killed Tuesday at a school in Uvalde , Texas, a shooting that shocked America and reignited the gun debate. Accompanied by his wife Jill Biden, the American president, devout Catholic, gathered and signed in front of an improvised memorial near the site of the killing : crosses bearing the names of the victims, almost submerged in flowers, with here and there a stuffed animal . The First Lady laid a bouquet in front of a small brick wall bearing the name of Robb Elementary School, which will forever be synonymous with one of America's worst school shootings . On Tuesday, 19 children and two teachers fell under the bullets of Salvador Ramos, barely 18 years old. https://www.scoop.it/topic/cellu-vital-gel-cena/p/4132755339/202

When a Putin girl spins the perfect love with a Zelensky

Ekaterina, the youngest daughter of the Russian president, fell in love with Igor Zelensky, a former dancer at the head of the Munich ballet and asked to return home. That's enough to upset dad. Ekaterina Tikhonova, 35, the youngest daughter of Vladimir Putin , lives an idyll with… a Zelensky. Not, of course, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky , or even with a distant cousin of the latter, but with a 52-year-old Russian named Igor, a former ballet dancer. A regular on the big stages and who has already performed as a soloist at the Bolshoi Theatre, the New York Ballet or at La Scala in Milan. According to Russian site I Stories and German magazine Der Spiegel , the two lovebirds met in 2017 and gave birth to a baby girl the same year. For two years Ekaterina, herself a former acrobatic rock'n'roll dancer , reportedly shuttled between Moscow and Munich, where Igor directed the Bavarian National Ballet. Tired of her fifty journeys paid for at the expense of the Russi

Donald Trump's grip on the Republican Party put to the test in the primaries

The former president of the United States suffered a powerful setback in Georgia, where several of his candidates were defeated. Some are used to settle accounts, others to reward marks of loyalty. For months, Donald Trump has been distilling statements of support for Republican candidates engaged in the primaries, before the midterm elections in November. Sometimes he even travels on site or helps them raise funds. A new round of polls, held on Tuesday May 24, painted a contrasting picture of his influence. There is no magic effect in his bursts of support, which sometimes surprisingly concern local polls or technical positions, but no more massive rejection of these anointings. Georgia has focused media attention, because the former president suffered a humiliation there. Donald Trump took the risk of a form of referendum on his obsession: that of electoral fraud which would have allowed the victory of Joe Biden. Allegations repeated in a loop by his candidate for governor, former se

Parag Agrawal at the head of Twitter: Indian CEOs are popular in the United States

Parag Agrawal, successor to Jack Dorsey at the head of Twitter, was born in India. He thus joins an impressive cohort of Indian tech CEOs, from Google to Microsoft via Adobe and IBM. A look back at an immigration success story. And six! When the announcement of the appointment of a new CEO at the head of Twitter , it was the departure of Jack Dorsey, the founder, who captured the attention of most. But not all. Irishman Patrick Collison, CEO of internet payment company Stripe, noted on Twitter that new CEO Parag Agrawal was Indian: "Google, Microsoft, Adobe, IBM, Palo Alto Networks, and now Twitter are run by CEOs who grew up in India. It's wonderful to watch the incredible success of Indians in the tech world and a great reminder of the opportunities America offers for immigrants." The tweet drew this response from Elon Musk: "The United States benefits greatly from Indian talent!" Coincidence, this concentration of leaders? Certainly not. Engineers and executi

Abortion in the United States: Oklahoma will adopt the most restrictive law in the country

The conservative central US state is set to pass the most restrictive abortion law in the country. In an already tense context regarding the right to abortion in the United States, Oklahoma is about to pass a law banning it completely . The parliament of the conservative state in the center of the country passed a law on Thursday which prohibits all abortions from the moment of fertilization. This amounts to prohibiting all abortion.  The text still needs to be signed by Oklahoma Governor Ken Stitt. The Republican had already  signed a law limiting the right to abortion to 6 weeks  (against 14 in France) on May 3. He had also announced that he would sign any law that further restricted abortion.  If adopted, which is almost certain, this text will be the most restrictive in the country in terms of abortion. It does not, however, exclude the sale and use of contraception, including the morning after pill. Abortion advocates were quick to react to this announcement. This is particularly

The price of wheat breaks its absolute record on the European market after the announcement of the embargo of India

While the price of wheat was already under pressure by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, it broke its record on the European market on Monday after the announcement of an embargo by India. This is an absolute record for all maturities combined on Euronext. The previous record dates back to March 7, 2022 with wheat closing at €422.50 per tonne , Damien Vercambre, broker at Inter-Courtage, told AFP. The world's second largest wheat producer, India, announced on Saturday that it would ban exports of this commodity, except with special government authorization, in the face of a drop in its production due in particular to extreme heat waves. Concerns for Africa New Delhi, which had previously pledged to supply wheat to fragile countries once dependent on exports from Ukraine, said it wanted to ensure food security for India's 1.4 billion people. A decision that will aggravate the global grain supply crisis, the G7 was alarmed on Saturday. The Russian invasion of Ukraine will aggravat

The 2022 Met Gala pays homage to America's Golden Age

Both a charity event, a social evening and a fashion show, the 2022 edition of the Met Gala was held this Monday in New York. This year's theme: Gilded Glamor and White Tie , a direct reference to the Gilded Age or American Golden Age. Beginning around 1865, this “Belle Époque” in the history of the United States was marked by economic prosperity that contrasted with the Civil War that had just ended. It is also a period when racial, social and economic inequalities are most marked. Sarah Jessica Parker , known for playing fashionista Carrie Bradhaw in the hit series Sex and the City , paid tribute to the exuberant headgear of the time. The one who can spend several months thinking about the outfit she will wear also wanted to echo the economic and social disparities of the time. According to Vogue magazine , Sarah Jessica Parker's ensemble designed by Christopher John Rogers references a design by Elizabeth Hobbs Keckley.  First black milliner in the White House, she notably d
